After I did some research on kids bike, I began to brainstorming about the fun criteria kids toy might have, and try to meet the both sides needs.
And also thinking about the material, I wanted to try some thing new on the push bike. the cardboard seems to be a good material for the eco and kids friendly, but is it strong enough?
During the brainstorming, I got few ideas, first , honeycomb cardboard which has a good performance of structure, it's usually used in furniture such as table or chair.
secondly, whiteboards and sticky notes are very fun to kids, sometimes even for adults, and kids can design
their decal by their own.
The ideal is to create a bike like butterfly which kids can paint whatever they like on the "wings", and it can remove anytime when they want new style of wings.
The first mock up I made from cardboards is not good enough for kids to ride and play.
1. The structure is not strong enough to hold the kids weight.
2. The painting area is too like wings that limited kids creativities.
After few tries and discussions with engineers, We came out an arch form which can support a adult weight about 80kg in computer simulation.
Next step is go to the prototype stage!
That is exciting! I made a prototype to play with my friend 4-years kid, and it works really well. The building process is easy to understand even for a kid after I demonstrated how first part build. Afterward, We painted together as a team on the sticky paper, you can just see the smile on his face, it's enjoyable and educative in the same time. Last thing he had a good ride, extremely fun to watch a kid play with a D-bike.
I make a landing page of the D-bike which just like a product online shop page.
Because D-bike is a paper-cut product, I designed 5 sizes them customer to choose.
From 2 years old kid to adult like you and me. We have it all!
And we have four colours you can choose from, add more favour to you bike than just black
After time pass by, you can frame your art work with our custom frame, the fun and memory are always be here.
